INSPIRATION:The inspiration for the Safetouch Company started early with the desire to help people that are food disadvantaged by those who have food advantaged. The idea was to create a grocery store that sold products at a premium to those in area of wealth, which would then subsidize a store in a disadvantaged area with below cost products. That was a young child’s idea. Looking back, it represented the creativity that is allowed by capitalism whereas taking from the wealthy and giving to the poor, as socialism, would destroy that intermediate creativity. CONCEPTION: The conception of Safetouch Restroom Packs came in late 1980’s just using unstocked public restrooms. It can be very difficult to have the NEED to go a restroom, and once inside, realize it is unstocked with toilet paper or there is a need for sanitizing one’s hands in a filthy public restroom. The labor vision needed to produce Safetouch Products was to incorporate the community by having those that are in long term homeless shelters do the work at the shelter, while getting paid and later receiving a work referral for getting work outside the shelter. Another alternative is having developmental challenged adults do the assembly while getting paid and developing job skills. IMPLEMENTATION: Although a small line of Safetouch Products was implemented in the early 2000’s, with injured workers, full implementation recently has occurred in late 2023. Sometimes, businesses do not start all at once. Many times, credibility is only given to those that start a business immediately but, Safetouch started to mainly serve the underprivileged and that is where we are now. Safetouch Company has outsourced four developmentally challenged adults, with one supervisor and growth is expected. Also, the company has contracted a wonderful independent sales contractor.
